Geographic information generator
To know our territory, the Institute prepares geographical information of the relief, vegetation, climate, soil, water and localities, among other topics. This is presented by printed letters and digital cartography. The information on the characteristics of the territory and environment that it offers in printed letters and digital files are:
- Geodesy. Set of data obtained throughout the national territory that makes it possible for it to be related to a reference system in order to determine the national shape, extent and dimensions. It serves as a reference frame for the cartographic products of the country and is the basis that allows photogrammetry to scale, guide and reference the traits displayed in aerial photographs.
- Topography. Information on the location, shape and dimensions of natural features and man-made works, that is, relief, streams and bodies of water, locations and communication routes, among others.
- Toponymy. They are the geographical names of the country that make it possible to locate administrative and geographical locations; they have reference in topographic cartography.
- Natural Resources. Data on the distribution and characteristics of vegetation, soil types, surface and underground water, rocks and climate.
- Urban cartography. It is the graphic representation of all localities with more than 2,500 inhabitants, in addition to the existing municipal headwaters in the country, at the time of the different census events. It contains street names and the location of main services. It contains information since 1990.
- Geostatistical Framework. It is used to geographically reference the statistical information of the censuses. It also provides the location of localities, municipalities and states of the country, using geographical coordinates.
- Cadastre. Registration of the characteristics of the properties through homogeneous, structured, organized and related data, whose final purpose is the integration of a national cadastral cartographic base. The Institute supports the organization of the country's cadastres in the various government orders and collaborates in the issuance of technical standards in this matter.
- Photogrammetry. It is the science, art and technology to obtain reliable information about physical objects and the environment through recording, measurement and interpretation processes of photographic images and recording patterns of radiant electromagnetic energy and other phenomena.
Remote Perception Images.
- Aerial photography. The INEGI has a collection of analog photographs at different scales of regular flights, and special in areas of disasters, which offers the reproduction service. A collection of images from all over the country from 1970 to date is available.
- Digital orthophotos. Images derived from aerial photographs to which the deformations caused by the camera optics and the displacement of the relief are eliminated; It also has a geographical reference. These two characteristics make it possible to locate positions and areas of geographical traits and determine distances.
- Derivatives of LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) flights. Detection and measurement system through laser light. The INEGI offers the cloud of points, mesh with 5 and 15 meters resolution of surface and terrain models.
- Satellite images. The INEGI processes these images, which, according to current regulations, are only distributed to public sector institutions.
