WELCOME
The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the National Institute for Women (INMUJERES) of Mexico, the Division for Gender Affairs of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) organize the XXIV International Meeting on Gender Statistics (IMGS).
The IMGS is a space to promote dialogue and cooperation with a gender perspective between the National Statistical Offices (NSOs), the Mechanisms for the Advancement of Women (MAMs) and other public organizations. It also encourages the exchange of knowledge with specialists from academia and international organizations on the production and use of gender statistics that promote public policies guided by the principle of equality.
OBJECTIVE
This year, the main theme of the Meeting focuses on:
“Better statistics for better policies: measuring and innovating to achieve gender equality by 2030”
VENUE
The sessions will take place at the “Carlos M. Jarque” Auditorium and at the Multipurpose Room of INEGI Headquarters building, which is located at Avenida Héroe de Nacozari Sur No. 2301, Fraccionamiento Jardines del Parque, Aguascalientes, Ags., México.
LANGUAGE
The Meeting will be held with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish and English.
LUNCH
During the event, coffee breaks and food will be offered to the participants at the event venue (INEGI facilities).
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CITY OF AGUASCALIENTES
The city of Aguascalientes, capital of the state with the same name, is located in the central part of Mexico at 1,874 meters above sea level. It is bordered to the north by the state of Zacatecas and to the south by Jalisco. The center of the Mexican Republic is located in the main square of the Aguascalientes city. The city owes its name to the hot springs found in the region. In addition, it has an International Airport (“Aeropuerto Internacional Lic. Jesús Terán Peredo”) located in the south of the city.
In September, the highest temperature oscillates between 28º and 25º C (82.4º F and 77º F), while the lowest oscillates between 17º and 14º C (62.6º F and 57.2º F). There is a high rain chance in the evening, so it is suggested to carry an umbrella or a waterproof jacket.
The city of Aguascalientes has a wide history, culture, various architectural works and is recognized worldwide for the San Marcos Fair. This event is held between April and May. Some representative locations and buildings of the city are: the Patria Square, the Exedra Column, the Aguascalientes Theater, the Three Centuries Square and the San Marcos Garden, among many others.
Likewise, you can visit the José Guadalupe Posada Museum, the Traditional Toy Museum or the Museum of Contemporary Art No. 8. Additional, the state of Aguascalientes has several tourist attractions such as the “magical towns” (“Pueblos mágicos”) of San José de Gracia, Calvillo and Real de Asientos.
