International presence

In the field of statistics the Institute is:

• A member of the United Nations Statistical Commission.
• A member of the Statistical Conference of the Americas (CEA) of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
• A member of the Conference of European Statisticians.
• A member of the Statistical Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
• A member of the Executive Committee of the United Nations International Comparison Program.

The institute signed memoranda of understanding on statistical cooperation with the Statistical Office of the European Community (EUROSTAT).

In the field of geography the institute is:

• The president of the Geography Commission of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH) for the four year period 2010-2013.
• A member of the United Nations Committee on Global Geographical Information Management.
• A member of the Permanent Committee on the Spatial Data Infrastructure of the Americas (CP IDEA).

Since 2009, it has collaborated with the United States of America and Canada in the integration of the North American Atlas and in the Land Change Monitoring System project.
