Presentación Survey of Retrospective Demographic (EDER) 2017

#The Survey of Retrospective Demographic (EDER) 2017 was conducted from July 3rd to December 31st, 2017. EDER aimed to collect information about the temporary nature of sociodemographic processes on migration, education, work, marriage, residential arrangements, fertility and mortality, contraception and disability; as well as current living conditions and when the target population was 14 years and current subjective well-being and in different periods of life.

The INEGI, through the Survey of Retrospective Demographic (EDER) 2017, follows up on the longitudinal (retrospective) survey projects of a national nature and of proven success in their design and results. The first survey of biographical type was conducted in 1981 by the French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED). The Biography Survey of Family, Employment and Migration, known as “Triple Biography” (3-B), was developed by Courgeau who, together with Leliévre, formalizes the method of demographic analysis of the biographies. The model of the 3-B Survey was adapted to carry out the first EDER in 1998 in Mexico.

The EDER 1998, is the first project to collect life histories from a representative sample of women and men at the national level, it records family history, transitions and demographic trajectories of three age cohorts: born in 1936-1938, born in 1951-1953 and born in 1966-1968. The survey received financial support from Mexican, French and American institutions, as well as the collaboration and participation of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the protection of information is held by the Colegio de la Frontera Norte (The College of the Northern Border- COLEF) and the results are published in the year 2004.

The second conduction of EDER was in 2011 as an annex module to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE) during the third quarter and with financial support from COLEF and the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC).

In 2017, INEGI assumes all stages of the information generation process of the EDER, with the collaboration of the Center for Demographic, Urban and Environmental Studies of El Colegio de México, A.C in the stage of conceptual design and training.
