Presentación National Survey of Household Income and Expenditure (ENIGH) 1998

ENIGH 1998 was carried out to meet the demands of information on income distribution and household expenditure, raised by various users to build some basic indicators in the implementation of economic and social policies and in research on living standards of the population.
The National Survey of Household Income and Expenditure (ENIGH), has its roots in several surveys conducted by various public agencies. In 1956 and 1958, the General Directorate of Statistics (DGE), then under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (SIC), conducted the survey on Revenues and Expenditures of the Population in Mexico, and in 1960 conducted The 16 cities of the Mexican Republic and Family Income and Expenditure. Meanwhile, for the years 1963 and 1968, the Mexico´s Central Bank conducted the Family Income and Expenditure survey.
During the period 1969-1970, the DGE-SIC again conducted the survey on Revenues and Expenditures of Mexico. Later, in 1975, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) conducted the Family Income and Expenditure. In 1977 the DGE, as part of the Ministry of Programming and Budget (SPP), developed the National Survey of Household Income and Expenditure, which constituted the immediate predecessor of the surveys carried out DGE-INEGI for periods: 1984, 1989, 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1998.
