Presentación Registered Motor Vehicles in Circulation (VMRC)

As of 1924, the General Directorate of Statistics (DGE), at that time assigned to the Ministry of National Economy, is responsible for collecting, processing and disseminating the statistics of Registered Motor Vehicles in Circulation (VMRC), collected through a specific questionnaire, which made it possible to generate information on the class of vehicles and the type of service.

In 1974 the conceptual structure of the model questionnaire 1952 was updated, expanding the coverage at the municipal level, in addition to incorporating the concepts of motor vehicles and bicycles, on the other hand, the variables associated with vehicles of “animal traction” were excluded. Likewise, in April 1984 another update was made to the data collection instrument, which consisted in replacing the concept of bicycles with “Other Motor Vehicles”, and the term “Rental” with “Public Service”.

In 1993, the then Directorate of Economic Statistics, attached to the DGE, which was already incorporated at that time to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), assumes the responsibility of developing this project; the above, due to its links with the Statistics of the Communications and Transport Sector.

It is important to mention that in 2003 the responsibility of attending this project was conferred to the current General Directorate of Economic Statistics.

In this sense, the Directorate of Foreign Trade Statistics and Administrative Records (DECERA) is directly responsible for the activities, which is why it has carried out updates on the collection methodology for the supply of data from the informant sources.

The Statistics of registered Motor Vehicles in Circulation (VMRC), is a project that generates information on the composition and evolution of the registered vehicle fleet that circulates in the national territory, identifying the type of vehicle and the type of service, thus contributing to the development and / or formulation of development policies for the transport sector.
