Presentación Global Index of Remunerations of the Economic Sectors (IGRESE) 2013

The Global Index of Remunerations of the Economic Sectors (IGRESE) represents an approximation to the remunerations of the non-agricultural sectors, it shows the evolution recorded by this variable for the economy as a whole and serves as an input for the analysis, follow up and decision making of the various sectors of society.

In this sense, it is relevant to have an indicator of employed personnel drawn from the demand approach, meaning, that it facilitates the identification of evolution trends of remunerations that economic units require to carry out their productive processes, while contributing to the strengthening of the statistical infrastructure of the country in the topic of employment.

The available statistical series of the IGRESE begins in January 2008. The index will be updated every month in accordance with the Dissemination Calendar of statistical and geographical information and of National Interest of the INEGI.

In our country, the generation and dissemination of labor statistics dates back to 1895, when the first Population Census, known as Revillagigedo, was carried out. Said project was in charge of the General Directorate of Statistics, which was assigned to the Ministry of Development.

In later years, labor statistics were strengthened through various surveys, which increasingly presented higher levels of representativeness, as well as the implementation of new international recommendations.

In terms of the generation of employment indicators from the demand approach, there is no precedent in the country. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS for its acronym in English), has been generating for decades the indicator called Nonfarm Payroll Employment, which is used to measure the non-agricultural employed personnel in the payroll of said country, such as the remunerations indicator associated with this one. Such indicators, for their characteristics, represent the main conceptual reference for the calculation of IGRESE.

The Global Index of Remunerations of the Economic Sectors (IGRESE) aims to represent an approximation to the remunerations of the non-agricultural sectors, it shows the evolution recorded by this variable for the economy as a whole and serves as an input for the analysis, follow up and decision making of the various sectors of society.

Monthly

The variable involved in the calculations is the total employed personnel that considers the dependent personnel as the non-dependent personnel of the company name.

Once the monthly reported wage bill is reported monthly by the National Economic Surveys (National Survey of Construction Companies, Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry, Monthly Survey on Commercial Enterprises and Monthly Survey of Services), as well as information from the establishments regarding the Manufacturing Industry, Maquila and Export Services (IMMEX) program, the process of integration of the sources is carried out, in order to have the main input required in the generation of IGRESE.

To calculate the weighted average applied in each sector, the representativeness of each of them was taken in the total Gross Census Value Added of the Economic Censuses 2014.

Data deflation:  In order to obtain the real wage bill, the current values are deflated with the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) Base Second Half of July 2018 = 100 rebased to 2013 = 100.

Where:
RRTijk:Real wage bill of the i-th month, of the j-th year, of the k-th sector
RTijk:Wage bill of the i-th month, of the j-th year, of the k-th sector
INPC:National Consumer Price Index rebased to 2013

Generation of simple indexes: In each month, simple indexes of the wage bills at a sector level are generated. Said index is calculated by applying the following formula.

Where:
ISijk:Simple index of the real wage bill of the i-th month, of the j-th year, of the k-th sector
RRTijk:Real wage bill of the i-th month, of the j-th year, of the k-th sector
RRTi,2013,k:Real wage bill of the i-th month, of the year 2013, of the k-th sector

Generation of weighted indexes: The IGRESE is obtained by adding the product of the simple indexes of the wage bill and the weighted averages of each of the economic sectors. Mathematically, the following expression applied:

Substituting:

Where:
IGRESEij:Global Index of Remuneration of the Economic Sectors of the i-th month, of the j-th year
ISijk:Simple index of the real wage bill of the i-th month, of the j-th year, of the k-th sector
RRTijk:Real wage bill of the i-th month, of the j-th year, of the k-th sector
RRTi,2013,k:Real wage bill of the i-th month, of the year 2013, of the k-th sector
Pk:Weighted average of the k-th sector
